I am an author. I also enjoy travelling, reading, and many things besides. In this website I have written about myself, my writings, and my future projects.
I started writing after I retired from legal practice in 2018, inspired by the writing of Pete McCarthy who travelled to Ireland, the place where he was born and grew up, to discover whether he felt a bond with the place of his birth, whether he felt “at home” there. I felt an empathy with the idea, and so set about a return to my own roots in the north east of England. This resulted in my first book “In Search of a Northern Soul“, published in 2020.
There followed two further books, “Northumberland: the Coast“, and “Northumberland: the Coastal Pubs and Inns“.
My project in 2023 has been to write about the Castles of Northumberland. I selected 36 of the principal sites, and the book is now published – in full colour with lots of great photos, some historical detail and visitor information.
